Made for home cooking
Photograph your plate. See calories and protein in seconds.
Dal and roti, jollof, adobo or a weeknight pasta. Homekcal reads home-cooked food, shows an honest range instead of one made-up number, and lets you fix any portion in one tap.
Try it before you pay: 3 free photo logs a day. No sign-up before your first photo. Pro is $12.99 a year.

We show how sure we are
A photo cannot see the ghee. So we never pretend it can.
Estimates from a photo can miss oil, sauces and portion size by a lot. A 2026 study by NIH researchers, still preliminary, found popular photo apps about a third low on weighed meals, with fat about 30 g low per meal.
Homekcal shows every photo estimate as a range with the likely value marked, tells you what each number is based on, and narrows the range as you confirm the food, the portion and the oil. We have not yet measured how close our own estimates come, so we make no claim about it.
Built for the way home food is served
Katoris, roti and a ghee tap, next to cups and grams.
Snap your plate
Photograph a meal and see calories and protein in seconds, from dal and roti to any cuisine.
The ghee and oil tap
One tap for how much ghee or oil went in, the biggest hidden source of calories in home cooking.
Thali split
One photo of a thali or a shared plate becomes separate dishes you can fix one by one.
Honest ranges
A photo estimate is shown as a range until you check it, with the reason one tap away.
Remembers your portions
Fix a dish once and the next estimate starts from your usual portion and oil.
Evening protein nudge
Short on protein by evening? One food idea from your own veg, egg or non-veg list.
And when a photo is not the right tool
- Barcode. Packaged food by barcode, from Open Food Facts and USDA.
- Nutrition label. Photograph the label when a barcode is not found.
- Type it. "2 roti, dal, aloo gobi" becomes rows you can fix.
- Say it. Speak a meal. Speech is turned into text on your phone, so no audio is sent to us; it works on phones that can do that on the device.
- Count it. Roti, idli, tortillas and eggs get a counter, not a vague serving.
- Home recipes. Save your family's dal once; later photos of it use your recipe.
How it works
- 1
Snap the plate
Point at lunch and take one photo. A thali, a bowl of soup or a plate of pasta: each dish becomes its own row.
- 2
See the range
Calories and protein come back in seconds as a range with the likely value marked, and a note on what each number is based on.
- 3
Fix it in one tap
Change a portion, count the roti, set the ghee or oil. The range narrows, and the app remembers your fix next time.

Questions
Is Homekcal free?
You can use it free: 3 photo logs a day, unlimited barcode, typed and spoken logging, your targets and the last 7 days of history. Homekcal Pro is $12.99 a year and adds unlimited photo logs, all your history, trends, more saved recipes and health sync. There is no monthly plan and no trial to forget about.
How close are the estimates?
A photo estimate can miss oil, sauces and portion size by a lot, so we show a range with the likely value marked instead of one number, and every number shows what it was based on. We have not yet measured how close our own estimates come, and make no claim about it until we have, with the method published.
Does it only work for South Asian food?
No. It works for any meal. It was built around home cooking, so it understands dal, roti and a thali as well as a burrito, a stir fry or a bowl of soup, and the ghee and oil tap and the counters help any home cook.
What happens to my photos?
The photo is shrunk on your phone, read once by an AI model that keeps nothing and does not train on it, and deleted after analysis. We never store it. A small thumbnail stays on your phone only.
Do I need to sign up first?
No. You can take your first photo without an email or a sign-up. Saving your account with Apple, Google or an email code keeps your log on a new phone, and is needed before buying Pro so the purchase can be restored.
How do I cancel Pro?
In your store account: on iPhone, Settings, your name, Subscriptions; on Android, Google Play, Payments and subscriptions, Subscriptions. You keep Pro until the end of the year you paid for.
Is there a limit on unlimited photo logs?
A fair use limit of 15 a day and 300 a month, well above what a person logging every meal uses. Barcode, typed and spoken logging have no limit.
I eat very little. Can I still use it?
Yes. An "I eat small portions" setting starts estimates from smaller portions and puts protein first. Homekcal never praises a day far under your floor and gives no medical, dosing or medication advice.
Does it work with Apple Health and Health Connect?
With Pro, it can read your weight and write the calories and protein of meals you have confirmed. It only does this if you turn it on. Health Connect needs Android 9 or newer.
Where is it available?
In every country where both the App Store and Google Play sell apps, except mainland China. The app is in English, with food words from your cuisine.
